Charlotte is an architect, artist, and the artists’s partner. She is presented here alongside a rather inquisitive donkey in a style reminiscent of ancient egyptian murals and hieroglyphs. Both subjects’ gazes are fixed on the viewer, as her outstretched hand hovers over the animal’s head. Oil paint as a medium approaches and captures a person like no other representative form, rendering both wild and calm, formal and abstract, rawness and tenderness, all with an equally pointed, captivating power. From the old masters to the new, oil has been understood as the great embassador for the fine arts, performing with an unmatched flexibility, a well that is yet not fully tapped in terms of potential.
