Ouranos | Oil pastel on cardstock, 53x60cm

Oil pastel and water colour on cardstock, 42.5x50cm (2026).

The Titan of the Sky, father to Kronos and husband to Gaia. Ouranos cowers in frame as the sky does caught in a window, the weight of his family’s misfortune bearing down on him. His teeth are gritted and his beard an underwhelming shade of blue, far from cerulean. The Titan series in oil pastel aims to capture a well-worn story as just that, displaying not the elemental power, nor the godly cruelty engendered in both myth and retelling, but an alternate viewpoint from which the titans are not so indelible. Oil pastel offers a creatively freeing approach to drawing, in which layers can be built up, scratched out, blended and played with in a multitude of ways. Results are instantly visible and potent formal elements quickly achieved, so that the focus of working with such expressive tools naturally lies more in the emotional than technical reproduction of a subject matter.

This item comes FRAMED (53x60cm) as displayed in the second image.
